There are certainly some stunning beaches across the globe, but not all of them are as eye-catching as those on Prince Edward Island, or PEI.

PEI doesn’t have the azure blue waters and white sand of the tropics, but what it does have is rosy red sand along a 500 mile shoreline. Why is the sand red? We wondered, too, but there is a simple answer. It’s because of the high concentration of iron in the area.

The red sand isn’t the only unusual sand on PEI. Near Basin Head, there is a white sand beach known as the “singing sands,” because they make a sound when they are rubbed together.

    2. The Northern Lights

Though you can see the Northern Lights in various places around the world, the Northern Lights in Canada are absolutely awesome.

The best places to see the Northern Lights is in the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, but they can be seen as far south and east as Toronto, and even in Niagara Falls.

It is impossible not to be mesmerized by Mother Nature’s painting of light in the sky, and pictures, unfortunately, do not do the Northern Lights justice.
